Grab Bag Friday!!

My daily reading plan had no passages for today. Looks like we will jump back into Genesis tomorrow. The verse of the day was from James and I will offer a few simple thoughts on that later.

What I thought I would do was put together a Smörgåsbord of silliness. Just some fun for Friday. Here are some short blasts of random, incomplete thoughts.

I like words. Sometimes long ones. But mostly little ones, arranged together in fun ways.

File under: Week Sauce

If one has to work on a Saturday, does that make Friday a  Second Thursday? And then Saturday becomes Friday and I guess Sunday becomes Satsunday. I only ask because I have a deep existential regarding how I should properly frame my understanding of the coming weekend… which should probably be renamed weekpause this time around.

File under: James, Destroyer of Flesh

James is probably the hardest hitting book of the Bible. It’s near impossible to read through James and not come out feeling as though your soul just went 12 rounds with Mike George Ali, HeavyWeight Soul Boxing Champion of the Multiverse. Or maybe that’s just me because I am so far from where I should be.

In any case, today we looked at James Chapter 3. Specifically 3:13 (then I went ahead and read the whole of Chapter 3, just because).

James 3:13 says: “Who is wise and has understanding among you? He should show his works by good conduct with wisdom’s gentleness.”

Prior to verse 13, the context is controlling one’s tongue, especially in the context of those who teach. We are then reminded after verse 13 of the difference between actual Wisdom and earthly Wisdom.

The NIV renders 3:13b as: “Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. ”

Taking captive and being mindful of the tone and substance of what we speak is vitally important. And, good golly, there has got to be a better way to present the thought in the preceding sentence. OK… CUT!

Comminucating Idea… Take 2… aaaaannnnnd… Action:

“Focus on what you say and how you say it.

That’s a wrap.

Until tomorrow, this is RightWay, rambling off into the sunset…

Good Day, Folks!
